Routines: The Foundation of your health.

Ask yourself, “Do I have a routine in the morning, and is it working to elevate my current health?” Today, we will be talking about the importance of routine, especially morning routine, and, if you don’t have one, I’ll break down the routine I use every morning.

Circling back to the first part of that question, “Do I have a routine..”. Routines are super important because they set standards, expectations, and consistency in our lives. Routines set you up for success, because no matter what happens during the day, if you do your routine you have accomplished something every morning to start your day. Small wins lead to big wins, and small, consistent habits lead to life changing results.

Routines also help to regulate us. Our bodies are wonderful creations, and they will always try and regulate. When we put natural rhythms in place, we can regulate more easily. When our bodies are regulated, we can digest food better, have more energy, sleep better, and even have less anxiety! When we have issues with those (and more) we are having symptoms of being dysregulated. So, when we carve out routine we are helping to regulate our bodies and nervous system, which leads to better health.

Now for the second part of the question. If you have a routine, “is it helping to elevate my current health?” Not all routines are good, for example, some people have a routine of hitting the snooze button for an hour or so and then looking at Instagram or their email first thing in the morning for another 30-40 minutes. That isn’t helping their wellness. In fact, it is starting their day on a path toward dysregulation.

Here is how to make a great routine that is easy, short, and attainable every morning. Start by understanding that our bodies CRAVE these things: movement, sunlight, water, good food, changes of pace. We should seek out something in each category every single day, why not knock ‘em out in the morning? So, when you create your own routine, base it off those things.

If you want to cheat and copy mine, here ya go, you can also be reminded of it by saving this short video on instagram (link here).

  1. Wake up and head outside, so my eyes see the light of the sun. If your get up before the sun, it is still beneficial to go outside. The reason is, the light from outside is much less harsh on our eyes, so it is a better way to wake up naturally.

  2. Drink water. I usually drink about 2 cups in the morning when I wake up. I love water. Some people don’t, but their body does, and yours does too, so drink it in the morning to set yourself up for success. If I’m feeling bougie, I’ll squeeze some lime juice into it and help my digestion later on in the day.

  3. Walk outside barefoot. Grounding is incredibly important to our nervous system, and there is no better way to ground than finding a patch of grass outside and walking on it. It wakes up the nerve ending in our feet, regulates our body to its surroundings, lowers cortisol (our stress hormone), and can even reduce some muscle tension in our body!

  4. Eat breakfast, and eat it BEFORE coffee. This is a heavy hitter, and honestly helps with so many issues that many people struggle with, including: indigestion, energy imbalances, feeling jittery, feeling dizzy, and many more. When you eat breakfast, make sure to have a quality protein source, and don’t just gravitate to a heaping bowl of cereal. If you don’t know good sources, reach out to us!

  5. Read/meditate/pray. Honestly, this is my favorite part of the morning. It is a chance to dictate the pace the rest of my day follows, and no matter how fast paced the rest of my day is, it guarantees that I created a natural slow down.

So, now you know why routines are important and how to create one for yourself. I hope this helps you, and is an easy way you can teach your family how to live a healthier life.
